Meet The Author

In the organization and planning of the topics covered, a narrow timeline was observed; how to tell and describe the birth and growth of a living city, almost like the life of a person, with all the normal and usual events, tragic moments alternating with lucky and happy moments, a living body.

Without claiming to have specialized insights into every aspect necessary to illustrate the environment, the birth, development, characteristics and all the inevitable vicissitudes of a city, we wanted to produce an overall vision that tells with linearity the evolution of the city itself.

Necessarily, this city entity is immersed in an external society, with which it interacts, confronts and suffers negative and positive influences.

The geographical location places the city of Monopoli in a sort of “middle ground”, always between the cultures that surround the Mediterranean and the great cultures and therefore European powers. The result is a habit of the “new” as a stimulus to progress, to interact constructively with other peoples and cultures. A general climate of tolerance and predisposition to integration. In this context one has a sense of the common way of saying: “it is a sea port”. This has always been

Monopoli: a seaport, in the broadest sense of the statement between different cultures that come and go but always confirming the pride of a free city and master of its future.

Even the “other half of the sky” of Monopoli, or the “world of the earth”, is not separated from the “world of the sea”. The famous gardens of Monopoli and Egnazia, not to mention the impressive oil production, would have had the same development in the absence of an outlet on the “sea routes”?

Most likely not. In conclusion, the book is aimed at all and we feel with sufficient readability by all. Those who have written have always had as their horizon, the world of young people, to tell them the path traveled by their forefathers, with the certainty that this path can continue to be traveled, with the opportunities and difficulties that future history will impose and with the certainty and pride of belonging to an ultra-millennial community.
