I was always fascinated as a boy to listen to my uncle when he talked about the adventures of the seven years spent in military service during World War II.
He had an incredible ability to report episodes and color them with such details, which seemed to have happened a few hours before. His stories enticed because they were always transmitted with a sense of humor, in a Monopolian dialect (Monopoli, his city)taking on all original shades.
At the end of a Christmas lunch he recounted some episodes. With a recorder I memorized everything and later I listened to the music. It was a good story. I asked him to tell me everything.
Then came the idea of writing down this period of his life.
The typescript would have remained in the drawer if my friend Stefano Siliberti had not encouraged me to review and publish it.
This is how this book was born. I tried to remain faithful to the high king lived, giving only a unitary body. I hope I didn’t betray his “story”.
The main reason for this publication comes from the fact that today more than ever it can be useful to those who in particular do not look superficially at the problem of peace.
