Un monaco del VII secolo, Defensor, scrisse un libretto intitolato Liber scintillarum, destinato ad avere una grande diffusione. Si trattava di brevi frasi, raccolte per temi, tratte dalla Bibbia e dai Santi Padri e destinate, come minuscole scintille, ad accendere una riflessione, un sentimento, un proposito, un moto d’amore verso Dio e la sua bellezza.
Similmente, sotto il nome modesto e un po’ ardito di Scintillae, questa piccola collana si propone di accendere qualche bagliore nel cuore di chi legge, di appiccare un piccolo fuoco che riscaldi e, chissà, forse anche di far brillare una speranza nella notte del mondo.
